West Java Neighborhood System

The first Western Java customs to   be discussed are related to the  kinship system. The system of coexistence, which prevails in the Sundanese tribe, is bilateral, pumped by fathers and mothers. Like other cultures, Sundani is the head of the family.

This system of coyote is also not far from the role of Islam, which affects culture in the Sunni tribes. There is the term Pancakaki, which is used to describe hostile relationships. For those of you who are sundanese, you need to be familiar with this term because it is often used in everyday life.

In addition to Pancakaki, you will also know the terms Sarsilah (Genealogy or Salsilah) and History. These two terms have almost the same meaning, namely lineajo or Strain. These three terms are often used to discuss the coyote system used by Sundan people.

The people of West Jave also have their professions for their relatives, such as fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, grandmothers, grandfathers and so on. This is the system of the neighborhood preserved today. So don’t be surprised if there are still a lot of Western Javanese people who have this co-sim system.

Seren Taun Traditional Ceremony

West Javanese culture, no less interesting to learn, is the Seren Taun ceremony.   This traditional Western Javanese culture is carried out by transporting rice or as ngangkut steam from rice fields to rice barn (leuit), using  a special pikulan called rengkong, while accompanying traditional musical wasps.

After that, a meeting will be held of Riungan, attended by local government officials and traditional elders or community leaders. The crops they brought to the Seren Taun ceremony are a symbol of the ask to thank God for the presence of local officials or officials in the West Jave area.

This Western Javanese custom is a ceremony to convey good news for the abundance of rice crops or harvesting and prosperity that the community has achieved over time.  Because  this traditional ceremony is performed  not only once, but at a certain time according to custom.

One of seren taun’s features is in the seba process. This procession takes place by handing over all the agricultural products obtained so that they can be enjoyed by officials and community leaders who arrive at the event. Everyone who comes to the ceremony will feel lucky together.

Tingkeban ceremony from West Jave

The next interesting Western Javanese culture to learn is the Tingkeban ceremony. The ceremony is being held for a mother who is pregnant with a 7-month-old baby. This Tingkeban ceremony is performed as a form of hearing for the safety of the mother and fetus contained in the abdomen.

The term Tingkeban has a certain meaning, that is, the cover derived from its main word Tingkeb. The meaning of this term describes a mother who is 7 months pregnant should not be mixed with her husband. In fact, 40 days after delivery, it’s still not allowed.

The purpose of this West-Avjan custom is to prevent the mother from working too much because the uterus is growing. As is known, having a relationship with the husband and wife will make the mother exhausted and this habit is not good for the health of the baby and also the mother herself.

After 7 months of age, the mother’s uterus will be more difficult until later towards childbirth. The culture of West Jave is dedicated to preserving the health of the mother and the foetus in that bad things don’t happen, so there are rules that the mother has to make.

Traditional ceremony for the feast in the sea

Another Western Javanese culture, which is still preserved today, is the traditional ceremony by the sea. This ceremony is not in any place, but in the Pangandaran area of Ciamis and Pelabuhan Ratu Sukabumi area. If you’re visiting, don’t miss a tour of the traditional ceremony.

This sea holiday ceremony takes place as a form of gratitude to the community to God for the harvested seafood. That is why the people taking part in this traditional ceremony are generally fishermen who use maritime transport for their families to live.

So there’s nothing wrong with coming and following this traditional ritual procession that’s still preserved.

Sepitane ritual or circulation

We continue to practice this Western Javanese culture today, namely the Sepitan or the surrounded  ceremony. This traditional ceremony is held with the aim of removing all dirt on the bride’s vital tools, so that it becomes cleaner. You can also find this culture in several regions.

This culture is also linked to Islamic religious beliefs, where one of the demands for Muslims is to perform recrimination rituals, both for men and women. This ritual is performed when boys are 6 years old and when the girls are babies, so that they do not be shamed later.

This ritual is usually performed by inviting the couples of recriminations, relatives and neighbours of the bride of the recriminations. In this traditional ceremony, therefore, it will be a feast, so that the bride of recrimination feels happy and is able to ease the pain after her vital signs are cleaned up because of the sometimes.
